Internet Dating -- What Works
Online matchmaking today is different than what I experienced in the 1990s. We were on our own once we got online, picking profiles, hoping to get it right. Now, services, like JDate and Match.com, have gotten computer sorting saavy, offering several ways to increase your chances of meeting your mate once you register. I've seen it work with couples who have gotten Courtship Story Books. First, you get a checklist of options to help you narrow your search. Then JDate, for example, will send "People You Click! With" emails to show members who clicked Yes for your profiles, signifying interest. They also send you member profiles that they think you will like based on your earlier choices. (Read Jenna and Jeff) On JDate, if someone clicks yes on your profile, they will send you that name in a batch of others that they think may also be compatible with you. You'll only know if that person clicked Yes for you if you clicked yes for that person and two hearts pop up. That's how Sharyn and Michael met. Deborah and Brian met when she noticed he clicked yes on her profile or "hotlisted" her and she wrote him.
